Photo 7

Through the whole assignment the students worket and showed a lot of enthusiasm. It was great to see that they were also very serious in their mission. It was a very rewarding task that increased the students confidence working with computers.

  1. Yes it would certainly build their confidence and their abilities to solve problems. We use a lot of project based learning in IT here in Australia. Students can study IT at school, at College or at university.
    How long do you have these students in their courses?

  2. This course Computer Technology 1A is on 100 high school credits and the students have 2 x 140 minute lessons per week for one semester.

  3. Are they all showing the same enthusiasm?
    Do you have a spread there and, in case, how do you handle that?
    Are your studentgroups big?

  4. Most of them are showing big interest, but no all of them. Those students who show less interest may be recalled that the school choice is about the make active choices and try to find ways to motivate them.
    I have 30 students.
    I'm sorry to say, but I don't really understand your second question :-(

    1. I have sometimes the "problem" that some students are having problems and approach slowly and some find it easy and are approaching fast. If the groups are big, I can have difficulties in getting time to help the slow ones and at the same time help the fast students for their needs.
      Another problem I can experience is getting more stuff for more advanced students without getting into the next courses contents.
      How about you?

  5. Jorg, this is always a problem in our classes. Some students are much further ahead in their work than others and it is difficult to engage them without going on to the next course. the ones who are behind need a lot of attention. We sometimes have what we call 'extension activities' for those who have completed their work quickly or more practical tasks for them to do so that they do not become bored. Have you tried doing this?

    1. I think that many schools are having that kind of "problem". We are working with these "problems" on a weekly basis with something we call "studiestugan" where students who need or want to catch up, have this possibility.

  6. I have a more practical question, do they damage or brake many computers?

  7. Oh yes there are always accidents and things get broken or corrupted. The teacher has to be very careful to supervise the work and to make sure that the 'extension activities' are useful and not dangerous

  8. We teach them this to especially safty and ESD.

    1. I agree that ESD is one of the most important and also fundamental knowledge when it comes to safety. We use two sets of computers. Both of their components are complete, but one set of computers does not work. On these computers students are training first before they take on those computers that works.
